Our Production Facility

Ecotech’s off-shore production facility, Yahgee, is the largest modular housing manufacturer in China - with the capacity to produce up to ten thousand modules a year.

Production at that volume requires sophisticated production systems and highly trained staff. The facility employs hundreds of skilled workers including welders, plumbers, electricians, architects and engineers.

$50 MILLION PRODUCTION FACILITY

Automated Jigs ensure that modules are manufactured with millimetre tolerances

The facility uses state-of-the-art technology and global manufacturing to create a scale of production that is simply not available in New Zealand.

The steel for the modules is direct sourced from trusted & audited steel foundries in huge volumes. Any steel without a traceable mill certificate is quarantined, pending independent chemical and structural testing to positively confirm the steel meets the project’s specifications.

Unlike other manufacturers, Yahgee has the scale to complete all the steel works inhouse, without having to subcontract out critical works to other vendors.

  • Automated machines decoil, blast and surface treat the raw steel in a single operation

  • Precision folding machines, high-pressure presses and CNC laser cutters machine the steel into structural componentry

  • Automated welding machines weld components together to create panels for rooves, walls and the floor

  • Panels are then assembled in house-sized jigs, and seamlessly welded together using millimetre precision, continuous welding equipment

  • The completed modules are then shot blasted back to white metal and painted with a 2-pot epoxy marine grade paint system in climate controlled paint booths.

  • Professional trades people complete the interior fit out to NZ standards.

Compliance with NZ STANDARDS

All the works undertaken in factory are completed strictly in accordance to NZ standards, NZ building code and industry best practice

 Worker Qualifications

To meet NZ building code requirements, key trades are required to hold internationally recognised qualifications equivalent to their NZ based counterparts.  Welders in particular are independently tested to ensure they have the required knowledge and skill before that are able to work on our modules.

NZ Standards Knowledge

As part of the Quality Management system operated by ECOTECH, it is our job to educate the factory on NZ specific building standards and code requirements.

A NZ qualified Plumber and Electrician is directly involved in the plumbing and electrical design, installation, inspection and sign off processes.  Likewise NZ Engineers are actively involved in reviewing the structural design and recommending minimum quality testing & inspection requirements.

Safety Processes

The factory’s Quality Management Process is ISO 9001 certified and it has a comprehensive safety policy. Our aim is to establish the same safety practices as you would see in NZ. Differences in safety legislation and historically relaxed attitudes to safe working practices means that ECOTECH’s role is as much about providing education as it is about enforcement.

SGS Factory Review & Audit

SGS New Zealand have completed detailed third party reviews of the Yahgee production facility and the ECOTECH’s Quality Management System. Included was a formal SMETA audit involved a detailed review of Worker Safety, Worker Welfare and Worker conditions. The facility was found to be fully compliant with international best practices

NZ GOVERNMENT INSPECTIONS

Officials from the NZ Government, MBIE and local councils have visited our production facility multiple times to complete factory inspections and sign off production orders. On each occasion, Ecotech has received warm praised for having a quality assurance program that tis world class. Jeff Fahrenshon, the Inspections manager from Auckland Council completed his last audit with the comment “ECOTECH is was what I consider to be best practices for off-shore Modular Construction”
